It started when...
in 1997, with my first paycheck, I booked a flight to Cuba. The trip in minivan, out of the airport, was the first time I saw with my own eyes kids, mums and dads living in shanty towns with no running water. This deeply impacted me. Since then, I have done my best to make a difference, working for organizations such as the UN Headquarter, UNESCO, the UNDP, the French Development Agency (AFD) and Australia's Department in charge of Foreign Aid (DFAT).
How I do my part
I produce field research, evaluations, impact assessments, value-for-money analysis and project closure reports in a range of sectors - such as biodiversity protection, climate change mitigation and adaptation, transmissible diseases, health and education for the poor and social assistance. I also have strong expertise in community participatory approaches. I have worked on over thirty development projects or programmes across Asia, Latin America and Africa.
People matter
In my early years, I worked for the AFD Chief Economist, Pierre Jacquet, a development thought leader who now leads the Global Development Network (gdn.int). I then became a close assistant to the CEO, Jean-Michel Severino, who transformed the AFD for the better. I later moved to the Research and Evaluation Department, under the direction of Robert Peccoud and Veronique Sauvat, where I led an international research programme involving five countries and massive amounts of field work. This led to the publication of a book, Local Politics, Global Impacts (Routledge, 2015). I went on to work as a freelance international development consultant.
Entrepreneur for Social Impacts
My development consultancy is a form of social entrepreneurship, as it is a way to sustainably give back to society. Yet, as a social entrepreneur myself, I have gained deep experience in the technology space. I co-founded Go-Up (go-up.work) to help employees enjoy better work conditions in South East Asia, serving clients such as Decathlon and Krungthai-Axa in Thailand. I also co-founded DevCity (devcity.io) which enables Indonesian developers to get the international exposure they deserve. These three endeavors all aim at generating positive and sustainable social impacts in the developing world.
